2019 Colours of the Year

BENJAMIN MOORE, considered North America’s favourite paint, colour and coatings brand, maintains a relentless commitment to innovation and sustainable manufacturing practices. The company recently unveiled to leading designers its highly anticipated Colour of the Year 2019, Metropolitan AF-690, a stylish gray with cool undertones.

It is a colour in the neutral spectrum that is comforting, composed and effortlessly sophisticated. It references a contemplative state of mind, understated yet glamorous. Also unveiled was the corresponding palette of 15 harmonious hues that amplify the soothing grace of Metropolitan AF-690.

Emphasizing the calming role gray plays, the complete palette captures the coveted feeling of restorative quietude in any room. Elements include the blending of heathered grays and soft linens for a living room to reflective metallic accents for a modern kitchen.

Once again Benjamin Moore has selected a colour that consumers would actually use in their homes rather than an obscure paint shade. Clearly their colour forecasters envision gray being a popular choice in the years to come.

BEHR’S Colour of the Year is an honest, approachable colour that conjures up the blueprints that builders rely on to bring architectural designs to fruition. It is a dark, rich, complex colour that is perfect for accent walls, cabinetry and front doors.

SHERWIN WILLIAMS has selected Cavern Clay SW 7701, an earthy hue that embodies renewal with a bohemian flair, as its 2019 Colour of the Year. It is described as a “warm terracotta colour with ancient, elemental roots”. It is a nod to midcentury modern style but with the soul of the American southwest. It is ideal for both homes and commercial spaces with its rich colour reminiscent of the beauty of nature found in canyons, deserts and beaches.

PANATONE has named Living Coral (Panatone 16-1546) as its Colour of the Year. This vibrant hue has a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens, albeit with a softer edge. Living Coral represents the fusion of modern life, a nurturing colour that appears in our natural surroundings while simultaneously displaying a lively presence within social media.
