Did you know that red doors actually have a long historical and cultural significance? In early American tradition, a red door signified to weary travelers that the home was a welcoming sanctuary. During the Civil War, abolitionists who were part of the Underground Railroad painted their doors red, indicating that their homes were places of refuge for African-American slaves as they journeyed north into free States and Canada.
Scottish homeowners painted their front doors red to indicate that they were mortgage free! The Chinese consider red to be a lucky colour and many put a fresh coat of red paint on their front doors as part of their New Year celebration.
The principles of Feng Shui suggest that bold colours invite positive energy and the colour red, in particular, invites good luck, prosperity, happiness and abundance.
